60min drive = 60min of grub

So, first things first --HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHELLE!!

(check her out chowing down on the Crabby Apple Crisp)

This year Michelle choose to eat at Joe’s Crabshack in Old Sacramento for her birthday dinner. At first my family wasn’t sure if this day was going to work out due to our busy schedules but somehow everything just seemed to work. Once everybody was finally together in Fairfield we headed off to Sacramento and unfortunately got stuck in Friday traffic on the way there. If that wasn’t bad enough, when we arrived at the restaurant they informed us that the wait was 50min and it was already 8:15pm. We decided to take the extra time that we had waiting for a table to order some appetizers at the bar. Joe’s has some of the best appetizers and the Great Balls of Fire and the Crispy Calamari did not disappoint.

A single Great Ball of Fire -- jalapeno, shrimp, and crab balls
-they were so good that we ate them all in a heartbeat

Crispy Calamari - pure crispy goodness

Dani decided to keep in clean and order the East Coast Platter, which consisted of fish and chips, crab stuffed shrimp and onion strings.

The rest of us on the other hand decided to get down and dirty and try the Joe’s Steampots.

Dad’s Steampot : ‘The Ragin’ Cajun’--Dungeness crab, shrimp and andouille sausage packed with crazy cajun seasoning

My Steampot: ‘The Diablo Steampot’--Dungeness crab, mussels and andouille sausage steamed in a flavorful garlicky tomato sauce with fresh cilantro and pico de gallo.

Michelle and Mom’s Steampot: ‘The KJ Steampot’ -- Snow crab, seared scallops and mussels in a light Kendall Jackson wine sauce with hints of garlic, pepper and notes of citrus.

All that crab turned out to be lots of work and very messy. In fact, my mom checked the time and it turned out we ate crab for an hour (yes, that’s right a full 60 minutes). But we were enjoying our time so much that we didn't even notice, also the birthday fun and great music jams ( Love Shack anyone? ) provided an amazing atmosphere.

So here are some action shots

Michelle sucking on some crab

Dad getting down to business. *note the focus in his eyes*

Dani looking pretty and clean due to her not having to be neck-deep in crab.

Hehe.. check out Michelle’s “I sure do love crab” face

Me looking ridiculous with crab on my face. lol
