Every year my family makes a traditional Southern New Year's Day dinner consisting of pork, greens, yams, and corn bread. This year since I had to work New Year's Day I had to make my own dinner. Being a vegetarian, I had to make a few changes but overall it was good.
"Greens": for financial luck -- Sautéed Kale, onions, mushrooms, and Brussels sprouts seasoned with rosemary, thyme, and salt/pepper.
Cornbread-- for gold
Yam (not pictured)
Mac N Cheese
One major item was missing from my meal, black eyes peas. I have never been a huge fan of them but I eat them every year for good luck. This year I forgot to get them but hopefully I ate enough greens to give me luck for the new year.
