trading greece for italy

During the week Francis and I had talked about visiting La Mediterranee because we had heard good things and had not experienced greek food in Berkeley. Tonight when we arrived there and glanced over the menu to see what they had to offer, we realized that we should have gone with someone who had previously eaten there before. None of the dishes jumped out at us or made us say "Oooo! that sounds good ". So we decided to walk next door to a place called Filippos. As we read the menu, a man walked out of the restaurant and said to us, "This place is really good!" From that point we realized that we were at the right place, plus many of their dishes sounded delicious. We walked inside and were able to get a table right away (which is amazing considering it is a Saturday night). I order the Shrimp and Potato pizza and Francis ordered the Capellini al pomodoro.

Shrimp and Potato Pizza
shrimp, roasted potatoes, red chile flakes with tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella and parmesan

Capellini al pomodoro
fresh Roma tomatoes, sweet basil, garlic, garlic croutons, and extra virgin olive oil

Overall this place was great: the service was nice, the dining area was warm & cozy (considering the cold Berkeley summer we have been having), and the waiters didn't try to keep stuffing with bread (e.g. Olive Garden). The meal itself was amazing! All of the ingredients were so fresh and savory. It felt like we had eaten more than just 2 entrees. We were tempted to try their Tiramisu but since we were so stuffed we decided to save that for next time.
